Attack on Pell harbour

Author: Wortiger  |  Category: News

The orks are amassing outside the city gates of Volkograd preparing for an assault on the city itself. Defences have been prepared and grimfaced soldiers wait behind the parapets for the inevitable roar of charging orks. Knowing that an all out assault on the walls and gates would take a heavy toll on the so far limited supply of boyz and vehicles Grimrukk enlists the advice of Gitsnik the blood axe warboss. Gitsnik draws up the plans to secure 3 beachheads to gain access to the city. The first target is the gate at Pell harbour, a weak link in the impenetrable walls of Volkograd and as an added bonus the wharf and workshops would provide a means to produce more engines of war for the Orks.

Interrogator Chaplain Uziel wiped the trickle of sweat from his forehead as his gaze scanned the bleak horizon. The growing dust cloud glittered with an unearthly radiance as it reflected the rays of the setting sun. It was larger now, much larger, and closer…
With a final glance he turned away from the battlement and raised his skull shaped helmet to his face, letting it slide into position on the neck guard of his ancient armor. With a snap and a hiss it sealed shut and the visual filters kicked in. Striding back towards the building he turned his head left and right, taking a good look at the assembled forces. They were good men, all of them, but would they be enough? He snarled behind his mask as he thougt of the tide of greenskins who had rallied and thrown his men back at the last assault. The roles were quite the opposite now.

Honored brother Melkior was standing guard just outside the door. In the dimming light his bone white armor reflected the final rays of the sun and it made him look almost radiant. As Uziel approached the gyros and engines whirred as he twisted his torso to face him and for a moment it seemed like the whole metal construct bowed slightly in recognition.

Uziel couldn’t help but smile. He had known Melkior for a very long time, in fact he would not be the man he was today, or even alive for that matter, if it hadn’t been for the ancient warrior. At his first battle, many, oh so many years ago now, he had been the one who came to the rescue as Uziel’s scout squad got trapped in a 2 level bunker surrounded and cut off as the genestealers came rushing in. Melkior had smashed through the bunker wall and cut himself through to the second level by shooting a hole in the floor with his assault cannon. Uziel still remebered the sight of the roof collapsing in a cascade of dust and fire as the great colossus came crashing down right on top of the approaching brood as his flamer spewed out burst of purifying flame. Those were good times…

He stepped up to Melkior’s side, turning once again to face the battlement and breathed in deeply. “What do you think old friend, do we have enough men to hold the position?” Melkior’s armor whirred to life again as he turned back towards the growing dust cloud again. He was silent for a long moment, but then, with a click and a hissing sound his assualt cannon turned for a second or two and his booming voice came echoing out of the speakers. “If the years have taught me something, brother, it’s that our numbers matter not, only our resolve. We will push them back or die trying and either way the Emperor will receive us and know our actions have been just.”

Uziel thought for a moment, nodded and abscently rested his hand on Melkior’s huge power fist. Again he smiled behind his mask, a grim smile, but still one of joy for the coming battle. “Only too true brother”, he said. “The emperor and our chapter will see our worth in the morning.” He patted the great Dreadnaught, almost fondly, as he turned once again and went inside the building.

The Outpost

Author: red2  |  Category: Battle

The last attempt to break the vital supply camp had failed, the Ork forces had been to strong. With blood and sacrifices the Space Marines had crippled it, but had not been able to destroy it. The tip of the green ice berg had now reached the first lines of the imperial defences. Small skirmishes had already been occurring but no major battles had been fought yet. The Orks waited for their numbers to grow and for the bulk of the army to reach the front.

The Space Marines knew that it was vital to disrupt enemy supplies and reinforcements from reaching the front line. Doing this would stop vital aid reaching the enemy forces at the front and win some more time for the imperial defences to strengthen their defences, evacuate civilians, draft more men and gather more vital intelligence about the closing army. In order to achieve this, small space marine detachments was dropped behind the enemy lines and ordered to hold vital “choke points” through which the supplies and reinforcements must pass. The space marines knew that they had to be prepared to be attacked from any direction and therefore had to choose a place easy to defend. The most vital point was near an old outpost on a hill. From there they would also have a good view over the landscape and could report important information about the oncoming army. The space marines was given the  orders to not give an inch of ground, and to occupy their positions until they are relieved – or die!

Digging in!

With engines screaming the Thunderhawk made its final descents and touched down on the landing pad. The access ramped lowered and a hulking figure in massive yellow power armor emerged from its interior. Colonel Knowles tried to look calm and asserted but the single drop of sweat making its way down his temple betrayed his feelings.

-”Captain Bertrada, good to see you. Your presence is most welcome.”
-”Are the Defenses ready Colonel?”
-”Yes, the trenches are ready and secondary and tertiary lines prepared. We are as ready as were ever going to be.”
-”Let me be the judge of that. I am delegating my Sergeant of Arms to inspect the lines and make improvements.”

With the Orks gathering outside the walls preparing to attack the presence of the Imperial Fists was the only good fortune for the Imperial defenses. They had passed the system a few days earlier and detected the Ork Pirate fleet as they made planet fall. Even thou the fists was just a smaller scouting force they refused to turn their back on the fighting and boarded their transports with all haste and made for Volkograd.Captain Bertradas prediction was that the orks would try and break thru in the manofactorum sector to create a beachhead for their raiding and plundering of the city. The first line of defense was erected in Sector Gamma Blue to try and deny the invaders the fuel and facilities they were after.

Words from the Governor

Men of the Imperium!
We stand today on the brink of destruction. Forces of evil is threatening all that we hold dear. Our homes, families, friends and even our mortal souls are at risk. Even as we speak they close in on our beloved city with their machines of destruction to wreak havoc upon us. But even if the times ahead might prove dark, we will not falter in our struggle to save our homes. And we will not be frightened or get lost in the dark for we have a light that will guide us through to the other side. The light of the emperor shall guide us as it has guided us before to prosperity and peace. They will not bring us to our knees because the emperor is there to hold us up in these times of trouble and he will protect our mortal souls forever.
This my friends is the time for us to stand up and tell our enemies that we will not go silently into the darkness! We will fight! And we will be victorious once more for we fight with the guidance of our immortal emperor and he is with each and everyone of us always!

Glory to the brave! All hail the Emperor!

– Imperial Governor Manfred Straus
